JERRY R STEELE, MANAGING PARTNER
Jerry Steele is the managing partner at Jeremy Carr & Associates. He is an experienced trial lawyer practicing in both criminal law and personal injury matters.
Jerry has extensive experience defending impaired driving, sexual assault, and drug related offences, and has a proven record of favourable outcomes for his clients, despite outwardly challenging circumstances. Jerry is known for his no-nonsense and tough-minded approach to defending his clients.
In addition to his criminal law practice Jerry practices in the area of personal injury. As a former ICBC defence lawyer he knows exactly what it takes to win your case. He has represented some of the largest insurance companies in the world and knows first-hand what they will do to defeat your claim. He now puts that knowledge to work representing injured persons and never represents insurance companies. When his clients are injured due to someone else’s carelessness or negligence, he makes sure they receive full and fair compensation.
Jerry’s practice covers all of Vancouver Island and Mainland BC, and he has successfully represented clients in all levels of court. Jerry’s unique skills and abilities have provided positive results for the clients he represents.
Jerry holds an undergraduate degree in Communications, and a Master’s degree in Leadership, from Royal Roads University. He also holds a Juris Doctor in Law from the University of Victoria and he is a graduate of the American Association for Justice Trial Advocacy College at Harvard Law School.
Aside from his busy law practice, Jerry has an interest in promoting lawyer wellness. He is frequently called as a keynote speaker to lecture on the subject in Canada and the United States. He is an active volunteer and former Associate Director with the Lawyers Assistance Program of BC.
He also holds a 5th degree black belt in Ninpo Budo Taijutsu (Ninjutsu) and is an accredited PADI Scuba diving instructor.
JEREMY G. CARR
Jeremy Carr has over 30 years experience as a lawyer. He specializes in impaired driving defences, and practices in all areas of criminal law, including sexual assault. Jeremy also helps clients with personal injury cases, including ICBC claims, and slip and fall accidents.
Jeremy’s practice covers all of BC, and he has successfully represented clients in all levels of court. Jeremy is passionate about protecting civil liberties and Charter rights and helping his clients avoid criminal records and time in jail.
Jeremy was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1984, after graduating from the University of Victoria Faculty of Law in 1983. Prior to law school he earned an undergraduate degree in political science from the University of Alberta. Shortly after being called to the Bar, Jeremy began his own law practice in Victoria, B.C. Today, clients continue to be drawn to Jeremy Carr & Associates because of Jeremy’s experience, reputation, and tradition of excellence.
In October 2012, Jeremy received the Contribution to the Law Award. This award is presented annually to a member of the Victoria Bar who has made a significant contribution to the development of a legal issue, and whose involvement has reflected positively on the legal profession. Jeremy received this award in recognition of his lead role in the successful challenge of the former Immediate Roadside Prohibition Regime, which was found to be in violation of the Charter and declared unconstitutional by the B.C. Supreme Court.
Jeremy enjoys sailing and can often be on the found on the surrounding waters of beautiful Vancouver Island. He has served for over 20 years as a board member of the Victoria Integration Society and is also a member of the Disabled Sailing Association.
JAMES A. DUNLAP, ASSOCIATE
Jamie has been a lawyer for 24 years, and his practice is currently focused in criminal and immigration law. Prior to joining Jeremy Carr & Associates ,Jamie spent 11 years working as a Crown Prosecutor in the Ministry of the Attorney General of BC. Jamie has also practiced in the areas of civil and family litigation.
Jamie graduated from law school at the University of Alberta in 1993. He was called to the bar in Alberta in 1994 and in British Columbia in 1996. Prior to law school, Jamie studied French and German language.
Jamie volunteers as a career mentor with the Inter-Cultural Association (ICA), assisting lawyers new to Canada to gain accreditation and pursue their chosen profession in BC. He previously volunteered as a board member for a local grassroots Restorative Justice organization. He has also traveled to Africa to work on a volunteer basis with the Legal Aid office in Accra, Ghana.
Jamie enjoys travelling, hockey, scuba diving, yoga and meditation. He is also an active parent of two wonderful children.
SUSETTE LARKE, PARALEGAL
Susette Larke is our Personal Injury Paralegal, who comes to Jeremy Carr & Associates after working for many years as an adjuster in the I.C.B.C. Claims Division investigating, assessing and negotiating personal injury cases for I.C.B.C. She brings to your case those years of experience and knowledge of the inner workings of the insurance industry and will put that experience and knowledge to work for you.
In her spare time, she enjoys golfing, running, gardening and renovating.
